Expat Support in Budapest – Counselling for Internationals

Support for Expats and Internationals in Budapest

Moving to a new country is one of those things that looks straightforward from the outside. You did the research, you made the move, and life in Budapest is genuinely good in a lot of ways. But somewhere along the way something starts to feel a little off. The novelty fades. The loneliness sets in. And the people back home, as much as they love you, don’t quite get it.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone and you do not need to be in crisis to deserve support.

What Expats in Budapest Often Go Through

The expat experience comes with its own particular set of challenges that do not always get taken seriously. Culture shock that lingers longer than expected. The exhaustion of navigating a language you do not speak. Feeling disconnected from friends and family who have moved on without you, or who assume you are living your best life abroad. Relationship strain from the move. A creeping sense of being stuck between two worlds, not quite at home anywhere.

These are real things. They deserve a real space.

What I Offer

My name is Jesper and I offer supportive conversations for expats and internationals in Budapest. Not therapy, not diagnosis, just an honest and confidential space to talk things through with someone who listens without judgement.

I am English speaking, currently completing my BA in Psychology and have been accepted onto an MA in Psychotherapy. I understand the expat experience firsthand and I work hard to create an environment where you can show up exactly as you are.

Sessions are 45 minutes and available online via Zoom, Teams or Google Meet, outdoors in central Budapest parks including Városliget and Margaret Island, or as a home visit within central Budapest after a few prior sessions.

Sessions start from 5,000 HUF. There is no waitlist and evening and weekend slots are available.

Is This for You?

This space is a good fit if you are not in crisis but something feels off. If you miss having a trusted person to talk to. If you are still adjusting to life in Hungary and feel more overwhelmed than you expected. If you just want somewhere quiet and confidential to think out loud.

This is not therapy. If you are experiencing severe depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts or anything that feels like it needs clinical attention, I will help you find the right professional. Your wellbeing comes first.
