Budapest Located Therapy

Finding Therapy in Budapest. What You Need to Know.

Whether you just moved here, have been living in Budapest for years or are simply going through a difficult patch, finding the right kind of support can feel overwhelming. This page is here to help you make sense of your options.

I want to be upfront with you. I am not a licensed therapist. What I offer at Idun Counselling are supportive conversations, and this page exists to help you understand the difference between that and clinical therapy, so you can make the right choice for yourself.

What is therapy and who is it for?

Therapy, sometimes called psychotherapy, is a clinically regulated form of treatment delivered by a licensed professional. In Hungary, as in most countries, practicing as a therapist requires formal training, a licence and ongoing supervision.

Therapy is the right choice if you are dealing with major depression, trauma, PTSD, addiction, suicidal thoughts or anything else that significantly affects your ability to get through daily life. It is also the route to go if you need a formal diagnosis, medication or treatment covered by insurance.

If any of that sounds like you, please do seek out a licensed professional. I have listed some trusted options in Budapest further down this page.

What if you don’t need therapy but still need someone to talk to?

This is where a lot of people find themselves and it is more common than you might think. You are not in crisis. You are not falling apart. But something feels off. Maybe you are feeling stuck, lonely or overwhelmed. Maybe you are going through a big life change, a move, a breakup, a career shift, and you just want a space to think it through out loud with someone who actually listens.

That is what I offer. Honest, confidential, affordable conversations. No diagnosis, no clinical treatment, no jargon. Just support.

I am currently completing my BA in Psychology and have been accepted onto an MA in Psychotherapy, through which I will work towards my official licence as a psychotherapist. Until then I am transparent about what I can and cannot offer, and I will always refer you on if I feel you need a higher level of care.

Sessions start from 5,000 HUF and are available online, outdoors or as a home visit within central Budapest, including evenings and weekends.
